The floor model is a replica of the US M26 recovery vehicle. One of the main factors that enabled the Allies to advance despite these power differentials was the rapid recovery and repair of battle-damaged tanks. This is where the M26 tank recovery vehicles and their brave crews came into play. The M26 was first used on the Italian front in 1943 and later used extensively for the Allied advance inland after the Normandy invasion. In all weathers, in the middle of the night or under an enemy fire, the repair crews constantly fulfilled their duty to recover and repair damaged tanks.
