HMS Hood, model, 2613 parts, 10 years and up
HMS Hood is a British battlecruiser of the interwar and World War II period. It was built in 1918 and commissioned two years later. It was 262.3 metres long. The cruiser's main artillery armament consisted of eight BL Mk I guns, 381 mm calibre. In the interwar period, the cruiser was the showpiece of the Royal Navy as the largest ship in the world. After the outbreak of the Second World War and the defeat of France, she was transported to Gibraltar, where she joined H Unit. On 21 May 1941, he set off on his final voyage in the company of the battleship Prince of Wales. Three days later, British ships collided with the German battleship Bismarck and the escorting heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen in the Danish Straits. After a short long-range artillery duel, the Bismarck's well-aimed missile caused an internal explosion in the Hood's stern, completely destroying the ship. Of the 1,418 crew members, only three sailors were saved. The sinking of the "HOOD" caused a tremendous shock in Great Britain.
The building block model of HMS Hood was designed in 1:300 scale and faithfully reflects the details of its historical prototype. The model is 88 cm/34.6" long and 22 cm/8.7" high.
