The Opel Blitz project was launched with the aim of producing a robust and reliable commercial vehicle on a large scale that could be used for various applications and purposes. In the early 1930s, Opel began producing the first lorries with a typical American “layout” at its plant in Rüsselsheim. Thus began the story of a great success that continued until the mid-1970s. Due to its structural characteristics, the Opel Blitz was also used by the Wehrmacht during the Second World War, both in the 4×2 and 4×4 versions. However, its popularity was further enhanced by its great commercial success in the civilian sector. Even in the post-war period, the Opel Blitz was indispensable in supporting German tradesmen, craftsmen and industrialists in their reconstruction activities.
