The Scania R143 M Streamline represented a milestone in the production of the famous Scandinavian manufacturer and achieved great success on several European and non-European markets from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. Assembled in Södertälje, Sweden, the Scania R143M was one of the most successful models of the “Series 3”, which followed the innovative “Series 2” of the 1980s and was introduced by Scania in 1987. Powerful and reliable thanks to its 500 hp V8 engine, it was designed with the most advanced technology of the time. Great attention was paid to the design to reduce drag and minimise fuel consumption – an important factor for success in long haul and heavy haulage. The Scania tractor unit with two-wheel drive was also appreciated for its ease of maintenance and low operating costs.
