Sd.Kfz.251 was the basic half-track armoured personnel carrier of the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War. Production of various versions began in 1939 and other combat vehicles were also built on this basis. Four series models from A to D as well as 23 basic and many field versions were produced, of which the standard and most numerous was the Sd.Kfz.251/1 armoured personnel carrier. The armoured hull consisted of welded armour plates. The front part ended behind the driver’s position. It protected the driver, the commander and the engine. The fighting compartment, which was open at the top, was intended to provide space for 10 soldiers. The rear, large, outward-opening door provided access to the interior.
