Assemble me! Carry out the pre-flight checks and then taxi to the runway!

Engine check. Propeller check. Rudder check. Flap check. Flight control and control system check. Checking before taxiing is complete.

"Crazy Hornet to Tower, request taxiway clearance to Runway 1 6."

"Tower to Crazy Hornet, Roger! Clear to taxi to runway 1 6 via taxiway Alpha. Wind currently from the south, 180º, 10 knots. Cloudless sky, visibility 10+. A great day to fly!"

Every day is a great day to fly with your vintage Ugears Crazy Hornet racing aeroplane. Inspired by the Granville Brothers' Gee Bee, Model R-1 Super Sportster, and other racing aircraft of the 1930s, the Crazy Hornet has a thick, teardrop-shaped fuselage and a cockpit positioned far back to give the pilot better visibility for tight turns around race track pylons.

The 1920s and 30s were the "Golden Age of Flight". The design of aeroplanes evolved from biplanes made of wood and fabric to monoplanes made of metal, and increasingly powerful aircraft engines opened up new possibilities for their military and civilian use. Air races like those in the famous Rocketeer comics became a popular sport. The Gee Bee R-1 won the Thompson Trophy (one of the most famous air races in the USA) in 1932. The pilot was Jimmy Doolittle, who was later awarded the Medal Of Honour for leading a daring bombing raid on Japan after Pearl Harbor. With a top speed of 294 miles per hour, the R-1 beat all of its competition opponents in the 1932 race because it was able to maintain a considerable altitude and had excellent manoeuvrability even at high speeds. As Doolittle put it: "She's the sweetest aeroplane I've ever flown."

The Crazy Hornet aeroplane from Ugears is a wooden model kit that promises 8 hours of enjoyable assembly with 354 parts and a "medium" difficulty level. The aeroplane model is powered by a wind-up coil spring motor, as is often used in clockworks or other precision instruments. Several groups of gears transmit the power from the spring to the moving parts of the aeroplane. The Crazy Hornet has two modes of operation: the pre-flight check mode and the taxiing mode. To select a mode, move the rotating drum to one of the two positions. Insert the special spanner into the stopper slot and pull the pull-up cord up to 21 times. Then place the model on a flat surface, pull out the spanner and watch the Crazy Hornet come to life. In Check mode, the propeller spins while the wing flaps and rudder shake before the aircraft automatically begins to taxi across the airfield to the runway. In taxi mode, your plane takes off immediately and rolls up to 2.5 metres!

Ugears is known worldwide for its wonderful wooden model kits and 3D puzzles, including vehicles of all kinds - cars, trucks, motorbikes, trains, ships and planes. The Crazy Hornet is currently our most beautiful and complex aeroplane model. We are also known for our retro or steampunk style, so this short and squat 1930's speeding aeroplane was just right for an aircraft in the characteristic Ugears style. The Mad Hornet is an attractive decoration for your home or office, but with all its technology it is really more for imaginative play, especially when displaying the pre-flight sequence. When the Crazy Hornet's propeller turns in parallel with the moving wing flaps and rudder, it's really cool, but the whole sequence where the model aircraft starts to taxi after the pre-flight check is unique in our collection.

No glue or special tools are required to assemble this model kit. Simply press the pre-cut parts out of the wooden panels and then put them together. When assembling the Crazy Hornet aeroplane model, don't forget to lightly sand and wax the moving parts to make them run more smoothly. This "medium" difficulty model is intended for modellers with some experience or for those who enjoy a challenge. The model kit comes with detailed instructions in 11 languages (Ukrainian, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese, Chinese and Korean) with illustrations. If you are not yet familiar with the Ugears range of 3D puzzles, kits, automata, robots, wooden puzzle boxes and STEM Lab models, you can order one of our simpler models together with the Crazy Hornet to get you started.

The Crazy Hornet aeroplane is sure to delight aviation enthusiasts, aeromodellers, lovers of clever design and all those who admire "daredevils in their flying boxes". Are you looking for an unusual, unique gift? Check it out! Are there any aeroplane lovers in your circle of friends and family? Check! The Crazy Hornet is an ideal gift for birthdays or Christmas. If you've ever dreamed of piloting a single-seater from the golden age of flight and dancing through the clouds, then this aeroplane is just the thing for you!
