Like the Hurdy-Gurdy Hurdy from Ugears, the Mechanical Celesta is not only a mechanical wooden model but also a working musical instrument. This special musical instrument model is a simpler version of a pianola and contains elements of a piano, a music box and a xylophone. There are two ways to play this instrument: You can press the keys to make musical notes sound over an octave between C and C using the metal plates, or you can "pre-programme" the instrument by first programming a melody on the roll of the pianola or player piano and then play it by turning the knob.

When you receive the Ugears Mechanical Celesta and start assembling it, you will notice that we have used the song "Carol of the Bells" as an example in the instructions for programming the pins. And not just because the Christmas season is about to begin. In fact, this coming 5th October is the 100th anniversary of the premiere of the carol "Shchedryk" by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych at Carnegie Hall. Today, this song is known all over the world as "Carol of the Bells". And it sounds particularly beautiful on the Ugears mechanical celesta. Because the Mechanical Celesta is easy to use, even small children or people with no previous musical knowledge can start making music by simply pressing the keys or using the crank to play pre-programmed melodies. When you press a button in "manual mode", the hammer hits the metal plate and the sound of the corresponding note is played. In "programmed melody mode", you arrange a series of plates along the rotating cylinder. Then rotate the cylinder; the pins on the individual plates trigger the hammers, which then sound the desired notes.

This entertaining musical DIY model / 3D puzzle has 573 pieces and promises 8 hours of fun assembly. The mechanical celesta has a difficulty level of "medium". In addition to the sheets of high-quality plywood into which the parts are laser-cut, the kit includes cotton threads, wooden balls and metal plates. To assemble, simply follow the detailed illustrated instructions in 11 languages (Ukrainian, English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Japanese, Chinese and Korean).
