2030 PCS TRAINS 6289 COMPIEGNE WAGON 1940
The COBI railway collection continues to grow! Another historic railway carriage in 1:35 scale is added to the range. It is a legendary dining car of the famous Orient Express, known for the armistice in Compiègne. The carriage is one of the most important symbols of both world wars, but is also inextricably linked to the railway, luxury and good style.
After the complete defeat of France in the 1940 campaign, the Germans found the carriage and forced the defeated to sign an armistice there. This just goes to show how much the roles have reversed since the first armistice. On 22 June 1940, a Franco-German armistice was signed, after which the carriage was transported to Berlin as an extremely valuable spoil of war that shaped German morale and was a symbol of advantage over France. It stood as a victory memorial in front of Berlin Cathedral.
At almost 60 centimetres tall, the wagon is a complete innovation in COBI's railway series. Its moulded sides conceal a perfectly reproduced interior, which is clearly visible after simply removing the roof.
The aforementioned sides are covered with wooden textured bricks and imprints, making the wagon look exactly like the original. The gold prints above the windows show the logo of the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, the car number and an extensive slogan. The car has opening doors on the sides, on the end walls in the aisles and inside between the successive axles. The interior of the wagon is the same as in June 1940 and the set includes two figures representing the two sides that signed the armistice.
The wagon has five track elements and a moulded embankment with the name of the set.
In 1944, the wagon was moved to the Crawinkel area, where it was stationed in a specially constructed tunnel. It is thought to have been destroyed in an Allied air raid on the town of Ohrdruf in 1944 or burnt down by the SS in 1945.
