SKE48007 - In the Hall of the Mountain King Plus (DE)
A game by Jay Cormier & Graeme Jahns - Artwork by Josh Cappel & Kwanchai Moriya
In the Hall of the Mountain King, players play as trolls trying to rebuild their abandoned kingdom beneath the mountain.
Using muscle power and magic, they unearth riches, dig out collapsed tunnels and erect great halls. At the same time, they raise the toppled statues of their ancestors back to their places of honour in the heart of the mountain.
The flow of the game in In the Hall of the Mountain King is driven by innovative production cascades. Timing, tactics and magic help the player to make the halls inside the mountain shine in new splendour and are the key to success and the crown.
The game is played with 1-5 players: everyone against everyone or in the team variant. Depending on the number of players, the game is played on the autumn or winter side of the board.
Each player starts at their own entrance and digs a network of tunnels from there, which must not be connected to the tunnel systems of their opponents. The more valuable the minerals spent on the tunnel tiles on the game board are, the more honour they bring to the respective troll clan.
The players must expand their tunnel network, discover workshops, build large halls and find useful resources on the way to the heart of the mountain. Stones, iron, heartstones, lorries, hammers, coins and runes can be added to the players' supplies. All of these are important resources for the reconstruction of the kingdom.
Buried statues must be retrieved and placed in suitable locations in the heart of the mountain (earning points) with the help of the lorries. An important aspect of the game is the production cascade. Each player starts with four trolls. Each troll has a certain combination of resources. When a new troll is hired, it is placed on top of two other trolls to form a "pyramid". The new troll is activated and receives its resources. In addition, all the trolls below it are also activated and receive all the resources they can carry. The more trolls are activated in this way, the more resources are generated. The timing of the activation of new trolls is extremely important. Each player must try to maximise the resources available by activating trolls. At the same time, it is important to keep an eye on the game board and constantly expand your tunnel system before other players snatch up the best spaces and materials.
The game ends when the second player has hired their sixth troll. The player who has earned the most victory points with their tunnel system is crowned the new Mountain King and the winner of the game!
The German edition of In der Halle des Bergkönigs comes with the expansion Verfluchter Berg and the mini expansion Champions. Cursed Mountain lets you experience the game in solo and cooperative campaign mode, and Champions gives each player an individual troll champion.
