1:72 Tu-22M2 Backfire B
Developed at the end of the 1960s, the Tupolev TU-22M "Backfire" entered service with the Soviet Air Force in the 1970s and can be considered an icon of the Cold War, partly due to its striking design. The "Backfire" is a twin-engine strategic bomber with swing wings that can transport and deploy both nuclear and conventional weapons. As an advanced aircraft of its time, it represented a significant improvement on previous Soviet strategic bombers. Thanks to its two powerful engines mounted under the tail, the Tupolev bomber could reach a speed of Mach 1.9 and posed a significant threat to US and NATO air defences. The "Backfire" was also specialised in conventional attacks against surface ships. With the end of the Soviet Union, numerous TU-22Ms, with subsequent improvements in avionics and propulsion systems, were used by the Russian Air Force.
