Wintholt, the winter forest, has been a stronghold against the cruel ice dragon Kaerakh since the time of the Dragonlings. When the Drachlings perished a thousand years ago, the peoples they had enslaved moved north to take up the watch in their place.

This book is the prelude to The End of Summer campaign, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Splittermond. The first volume consists of the adventures Towers in the Ice and The Fallen Prince as well as the Frost Shards, a series of short adventures and scenarios that link the two adventures together. They take the adventurers into the forests of Wintholt, to the court of King Aelfric Blackhand, to ancient Dracurian ruins and to places known only from legends and tales.
It soon becomes clear that some of the discoveries also harbour danger: something is stirring, and in the middle of summer a breath of frost begins to blow through the forests.
