The V2 rocket is one of the most famous so-called "wonder weapons" that were to decide the war. The design still fascinates many history and world war enthusiasts today. The V2 rockets (Vergeltungswaffe 2) were the world's first long-range ballistic missiles. They were developed by Nazi Germany during the Second World War, with Wernher von Braun being the main designer. The V2 rockets were used by the Germans from 1944, mainly for attacks on London and other Allied cities. The V2 had a range of around 300 km and could carry an explosive charge of around 1 tonne. The first design was based on engines that ran on liquid fuel. After launch, the rocket rose to an altitude of about 100 km (that's space!) and then plummeted towards its target at enormous speed, making it virtually impossible to intercept. The V-2 was the forerunner of modern ballistic missiles and had a significant impact on the development of space technology after the war.
