The trail of a legate from the time of the Hundred Towers leads the heroes on a dangerous quest into the bewildering underworld, which is the refuge of light-shy creatures, dark-minded villains and the henchmen of the Queen of Crime.

When a terrible deed is committed in the metropolis, the city of conspirators reveals itself to be a scene of deceit and treachery. Trust is a high commodity these days, for away from the glamour of ancient monuments and stately towers, daggers lurk in the dark. The lines between perpetrators and victims begin to blur, and the heroes no longer fight merely for honour and glory, for a cold-hearted, calculating power has risen up and demands loyalty or death.
