Trace into the dark

A man looks in the mirror and sees ...? Everyone wants to know where they come from. Also the doctor Samuel Beaver. Exposed as an infant, he was left with an amulet as a clue. After many years of searching, he finally has a concrete lead. He doesn't tell anyone where it takes him; he wants to surprise everyone. Days later, the desperate wife sends the detectives on a search. Like pieces of a puzzle, they have to collect the traces of a man who has apparently disappeared without a trace. Her research takes her on a European tour: from London to an English village, to Dover and Calais and finally to Vienna. Back in London they look into Samuel Beaver's mirror. And have to realize that their search, like the doctor before, led them into the dark.

The metropolis on the much celebrated blue Danube is worth a trip. With the opera and the Prater, museums, wine taverns and numerous sights, the detectives are almost spoiled for choice. Sitting in the fiaker and letting the Hofburg and St. Stephen's Cathedral pass by and then sipping a hangover coffee or a Pharisee in the coffee house is certainly a welcome change from the everyday hunt for criminals.
