Product Description

The church model was released in a collection prepared to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy and bears the official logo of the organisers of the anniversary celebrations.

For the first time in COBI's history, we are presenting a set that combines the history of the Second World War and architecture! The Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church in Sainte-Mère-Église (Normandy, France) became world famous for the events of 6 June 1944, which took place during the D-Day operation. Soldiers of the American 82nd Airborne Division were tasked with gaining control of the town of Sainte-Mère-Église. However, due to an unfortunate landing, one of the soldiers, John Steele, got stuck in the church tower. Suspended high above the ground, the helpless soldier witnessed fierce fighting in the town. He survived, although he himself was injured! To commemorate this event, a mannequin depicting John Steele was permanently affixed to the church tower. The memory of the liberators is still alive there and is celebrated in a wonderful way! After the war, completely new stained glass windows depicting paratroopers and symbols associated with them appeared in church windows! Today, the church in Sainte-Mère-Église is a favourite destination for tourists and history buffs of the Second World War. This symbolic place reminds us of the heroic efforts of the paratroopers and the importance of the D-Day operation in the history of the modern world.

The church model has been carefully recreated using 2,280 COBI bricks. We haven't forgotten the characteristic architectural details and beautiful stained glass windows that remind us of the struggle of American soldiers! The clock on the church tower shows the exact time when the American paratroopers landed! There are elements of the environment and vegetation around the church. We have also placed a historic water pump next to the church where a fierce battle took place! The church roof can be removed to allow access to the interior, which you can customise yourself. The set includes the main hero of the historical events, John Steel, with a parachute attached to the corner of a steeple! Build the story brick by brick!

Especially for the upcoming 80th anniversary of D-Day, we have prepared for you an official collector's set with a special anniversary logo of the celebrations that will take place in 2024! The set will keep the memory of this extremely important event alive in your homes, which had a major impact on the course of the Second World War!
