During the German occupation of European countries in the Second World War, local partisan groups played a key role. The partisans often had different ideals and political motivations, but were united in their efforts to help defeat the German occupying forces. The type of operations carried out by partisan groups was wide-ranging and included both intelligence gathering and support for the Allied forces, particularly in relation to acts of sabotage against the enemy's logistics and communications infrastructure.
