The Fiat 131 Abarth was built on the basis of the two-door Fiat saloon. Abarth's development included many measures such as reducing the weight of the body, creating larger wheel arches and creating air intakes on the bonnet and side panels to optimise the cooling of the mechanics. The Fiat 131 Abarth used a 4-cylinder in-line engine installed at the front as a longitudinal engine with a light alloy cylinder head with 4 valves per cylinder. It was built from 1976 and was used in the World Rally Championship, where it won three manufacturers' world championships, an FIA Drivers' Cup and a Drivers' World Championship. It took part in international competitions until 1982 and was then replaced by vehicles from the Lancia brand. Some of the liveries, which show the sponsors of the time, have become icons in the history of off-road racing.
