Product Description

Especially for the upcoming 80th anniversary of D-Day, we have prepared for you an official set with a special anniversary logo of the celebrations that will take place in 2024! The set will keep alive the memory of this extremely important event in your homes, which had a major impact on the course of the Second World War!
The Higgins boat model made of COBI building bricks faithfully reflects its historical role model while retaining the popular 1:35 scale. The landing craft made of clamp building blocks has a completely new structure that has been developed from scratch. The model is 36 cm long. It has an opening ramp and a detailed full hull. The set includes movable elements such as two machine guns with covers and a mechanism for lowering and raising the front ramp based on a pulley system. We have not forgotten details such as the rudder, the turbines and the opening hatch with the outline of the engine underneath. The set uses permanent prints! To showcase this beautiful model, we have designed a special display stand made of clamping bricks with a sign with the name of the boat. The set also includes two figures representing an American infantry soldier and a barge crew sailor. A large US flag printed on both sides flies on the barge.
This special D-Day anniversary set is for lovers of history, military technology and building bricks! Build history, brick by brick!
Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) or Higgins Boat is a type of landing craft used during and after the Second World War to transport and land supplies, small vehicles and soldiers. They were used en masse during D-Day (6 June 1944) and in Operations Torch in North Africa, Husky, Shingle and Avalanche in Italy, as well as in combat in the Pacific during the Battle of Guadalcanal, the Gilbert Islands, the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
The barge was designed by Andrew Higgins. Various manufacturers produced over 20,000 of these units. Most of the structure was mainly made of wooden plywood, which made the boat very cheap and easy to build, extremely light, but at the same time offered no protection against gunfire. Thanks to its flat bottom, the special lowerable front ramp and the drive cover, it could reach any shore, even very shallow ones. On board the barge was a 36-man army platoon. In the case of transporting a small vehicle, such as an off-road vehicle, it could also accommodate around 12 soldiers or 3.6 tonnes of cargo. The landing craft reached speeds of up to 12 knots (14 mph, 22 km/h). The boat was armed with two machine guns, which were operated by two gunners.
