Product Description

Based on the experiences and successes of the Italian Regia Marina during the First World War. In 1935, Teseo Tesei and Elios Toschi developed and perfected the Siluro a Lenta Corsa (S.L.C.), informally known as the "Maiale" (pig). It was a torpedo modified so that it could be controlled underwater by two operators wearing breathing masks. It was designed to carry a high-explosive warhead under the keel of enemy ships. The modified torpedoes had a limited speed, were equipped with a guidance system and had batteries that powered the electric motor, which guaranteed a range of 12-15 miles.
The most remarkable action of these Italian naval fighters took place on 19 December 1941. They were transported by the submarine "Scirè" to the heavily defended harbour of Alexandria and were able to attack the Royal Navy battleships H.M.S. Valiant and H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, putting them out of action for several months.
