SAAB JAS 39 Gripen E is the latest development version of the popular Swedish multi-role fighter from the aviation company SAAB. The name of the Gripen aircraft refers to the SAAB crest that houses the neck and emphasises the multi-role nature of the aircraft. The abbreviation JAS was created from words with Swedish meanings: Jakt - hunt, Attack - attack, Spaning - reconnaissance. The Gripen is a powerful multi-role machine that can perform all these tasks. The configuration of the canard and wing in the delta configuration makes it possible to develop high speeds.
The "E" version is being developed for the needs of the Swedish and Brazilian air forces. The aircraft was slightly lengthened and its wingspan and weight also increased.
