10302 - Model kit , Battleship USS Arizona, 133 parts, aged 12 and over
On the morning of 7 December 1941, all was calm at Pearl Habor and the sun was shining. The Arizona had just returned from fleet manoeuvres and had been moored in line with the other battleships along the coast of Ford Island. Most of the crew were having breakfast. Gunfire and the sound of bombs broke the silence, and as the sailors rushed on deck, they realised that their ship was under attack. In a terribly horrific moment, the Arizona was hit on the port side by a torpedo, "amidships" by a large bomb and on the foredeck by an armour-piercing bomb. 1,100 sailors lost their lives. To commemorate the men of the Arizona, a simple memorial plaque was placed above the ship and a flagpole was erected.
