The Yak-1b with the founding inscription was donated by Wolf Messing to the pilots of the 1st Fighter Aviation Regiment "Warszawa" and was the most famous aircraft of the Polish People's Army during the Second World War. The Yak-1 belongs to the family of aeroplanes developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau. Aircraft of this type have been used in Polish aviation since 1943. The aircraft gained a reputation as a solid and easy-to-maintain machine. It was popular with both pilots and ground personnel. Interestingly, it was one of the smallest and lightest fighters of the Second World War. A very good power to weight ratio gave the aircraft excellent performance and made it a formidable opponent.
