300031215 - Model kit,1:700 JPN Shinano aircraft carrier WL
The Shinano, one of the largest aircraft carriers of the Second World War, was launched in October 1944.
Construction of the huge Yamato-class ship began shortly after the Japanese defeat at Midway and was completed in November 1944.
The overall length of the Shinano was 266 metres and she had a displacement of 62,000 tonnes.
She inherited the strong armouring from the Yamato as well as a reinforced flight deck that could withstand a direct explosion of a 500 kg bomb.
On the way to the fitting-out quay, the Shinano was discovered and torpedoed by an American submarine before her first deployment, and shortly afterwards she capsized off the shores of Shionomisaki.
