Dragsters are the undisputed kings of drag racing. With an acceleration of 1-160 km/h in less than a second, a g-force of 5 at take-off (more than an F-18 catapulted off the deck of an aircraft carrier) and top speeds of 540 km/h, dragsters are the epitome of technology, power and speed. Drag racing - an acceleration race on a straight track - was first performed in the 1930s in dry lake basins in California. Since the 1950s, regional and national drag racing and motorbike championships have been held in the US, and the sport has since spread to many other countries around the world.

One look at the Ugears dragster and you will see that this is no ordinary toy car. The model is powered by a powerful spring motor and a gear set that transmits power via crankshaft and belt drive (a rubber band passed through a tensioning device with a pulley) to the rear wheels, which are fitted with special silicone seals for better grip. The DIY wooden model has a start/stop button and shiftable gears, and when it powers through, it can rear up on its rear tyres just like a real dragster. The dragster features an open-bodied "skeleton" type body, revealing the beautiful and exciting mechanics inside this race car.

To get the model running, first make sure the start/stop button is in the "stop" position. Then turn the non-removable wind-up knob on the back of the dragster clockwise about twelve times. Place the dragster on the ground and while holding it with one hand, switch the start/stop button to "start" and then release it. Because it is typical for Ugears and because we like to integrate realistic details with "wow effect", the air supply flaps are closed on the stop position and open on the start position!
