The stand model is a replica of the German fighter aircraft known as the Messerschmitt Bf109 E-4. Bulletproof glass was used on some of the aircraft to reinforce the front of the canopy. They were on a par with the Spitfire fighters in the Battle of Britain.
However, with a flight range of only 560 kilometres, the E-4 aircraft were limited to only fifteen minutes of combat over the British skies. As a result, the bombers did not receive sufficient support and suffered heavy damage. As a result, the Luftwaffe's strategy of bombing England into surrender failed.
To overcome this disadvantage, the E-4 aircraft were equipped with an additional 300 litre fuel tank.
