The Volvo 760 was the first model in the 700 series to be launched on the market in 1982. It was initially only available as a saloon and was characterised by its clear, angular shape, vertical rear window and high build quality. The design was clearly modelled on US cars of the time, such as the Chevrolet Caprice or the Cadillac Seville. Two engine versions were available from the outset: a 156 hp six-cylinder petrol injection engine and a six-cylinder turbodiesel with a capacity of 2.4 litres and 109 hp. A four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 182 hp was added in 1983. The boxy estate version, which came onto the market in 1985, was almost an even greater success for Volvo.
