Product Description

Until the end of World War II, the brothers Reimar and Walter Horten were among the best-known designers of flying wing aircraft in Germany. They had brought their experience in this sector to a special unit that was responsible for the further development of flying wing aircraft as Sonderkommando 9. Development of the Horten Ho IX, equipped with two BMW 003A-1 jet engines, began in 1942. While the first aircraft could only be completed as a glider due to difficulties with the jet engine, the second prototype was powered by the Jumo 004B-1. In 1944, the V2 made its first flight, reaching speeds of more than 780 km/h. The V2 was produced in series. Series production of the Horten was transferred to the Gothaer Waggonfabrik and the type designation was changed to Go 229. The first aircraft of the Gothaer Waggonfabrik, the Go 229 A-O V3 received the Jumo 004C engines.
