Product Description

The Vought A-7 Corsair II was designed and built in the early 1960s to meet US Navy requirements for a new carrier-based attack aircraft to replace the piston-powered A-1 Skyraider and A-4 Skyhawk jets. Developed directly from the fuselage of the Vought F-8 Crusader carrier-based fighter, the A-7 entered service in 1965. It featured a large frontal air intake and arrow-shaped 35° wings with retractable tails, which served to reduce the space required on the carrier deck, and a modern head-up display that improved operational efficiency. The "Corsair II" had the capability to carry an impressive attack armament, typically consisting of free-fall bombs, guided Paveway bombs and air-to-surface missiles. The A-7E was the last version built for the US Navy with even better operational performance. The A-7E could use Harpoon anti-ship missiles and AGM-88 HARM radar countermeasures missiles.
