Product Description

The British sports car manufacturer Lotus produced the legendary Seven in four model series between 1957 and 1973. To keep the sales price low, the two-seater was offered as a "kit car". This eliminated the excise tax that would have been charged on fully assembled vehicles at the time. The only catch was that the tax laws stated that no assembly instructions could be enclosed with the kits. Lotus, however, took advantage of a loophole in the law and provided buyers with disassembly instructions, which simply had to be followed in reverse order during assembly.

The Lotus 7 Series II was launched in 1960. The models had a redesigned frame, modified rear suspension and smaller 13-inch wheels. The nose cowl and wings were changed from aluminium to fibreglass reinforced plastic. The Super 7 also had a more powerful engine with up to 100 hp. In 1973, sports car manufacturer Caterham Cars took over production of the Seven from Lotus.

The Tamiya 1:24 scale model kit provides a detailed reproduction of the in-line four-cylinder engine, with carburettor, exhaust system, gearbox and suspension authentically represented. Aluminium air intake funnels for the engine and a variety of photo-etched parts provide an ultra-realistic finish. The Super 7 can be assembled as a road car or clubman racer.
