This large minesweeper helicopter is in service with various special forces of the U.S. Navy and the Japanese Self-Defence Forces. The Sea Dragon is a more powerful, three-engine version of the twin-engine CH-53 "Stallion" developed for the U.S. Marine Corps in the 1960s. Some CH-53 helicopters specially equipped for rescue missions were used by the U.S. Air Force. Powerful engines enable the transport and deployment of heavy mine detection systems, which are lowered into the sea from the helicopter mounted on a skid.
