The Grumman F-14 TOMCAT is an American supersonic jet. Its distinguishing feature is the variable geometry of the wings. The fighter was developed and produced by the Grumman Corpration Label. The assumptions were to defend the fleet by air superiority. It was also used to conduct tactical reconnaissance. Later modifications enabled the transport of bombs for ground attacks. The F-14 entered service with the United States Navy in 1972. The main user was the United States. In 1976, 79 aircraft were exported to Iran, some of which are still in service today. The aircraft was officially retired from US Navy service on 22 September 2006. The F-14 TOMCAT fighter became famous not only because of its amazing appearance, its variable wing geometry, but also because of its participation in the already iconic 1986 film TOP GUN. The main character of the film Maverick (Tom Cruise) is a TOMCAT F-14A fighter pilot!
