COBI-5721 - Messerschmitt Me262 A-1a, model, 394 parts
The wonder weapon that was to turn the tide of war, now in the Historical Collection. The Messerschmitt Me 262 is the first jet-powered fighter in combat! Manufactured by Germany, it entered service in 1944 as an interceptor. Bombing and reconnaissance versions were also produced. It was called the Sturmvogel by German pilots and was known to the Allies as the Turbo. Due to its late entry into service, the aircraft played no significant role during the war. Messerschmitt's Me 262 scored 900 kills with losses of 100 aircraft. This aircraft is inspired by a model on display in the Deutsches Museum in Munich. It was piloted by Hans Guido Mutke, who reached Switzerland in the last days of the war, where he was interned. Years later, the plane returned to Germany as a major museum exhibit.
