Product Description
The Wessex, easily recognisable by its distinctive from with the raised pilot's cabin, was produced under licence by Westland Aircraft. It was based on the American Sikorsky S-58 helicopter, which Westland equipped with a Rolls-Royce turbo engine (1,200 hp). Thanks to its extraordinary longevity, the Wessex was in Royal Navy service for almost three decades. Depending on the version, it has taken on numerous different operational tasks.
One of the last versions is the UH.5, specialised in the tactical transport of artillery, ammunition and missile systems, which was used during the Falklands War in 1982. Thanks to its reliability, the Wessex UH.5 was also suitable for extremely demanding tasks, such as transporting the British Royal Navy's marines during attack and infiltration operations.
