Product Description

The Short Sunderland is one of the most famous seaplanes of the Second World War. It entered service in late 1938 to equip the squadrons of the Royal Air Force Coastal Command. In December 1941, the Mk III version was introduced, the most famous and widespread variant of the Short seaplane, which contributed significantly to countering the threat of German U-boats during the Battle of the Atlantic.

The Mk.III, unlike its predecessors, was significantly improved in hull configuration and equipment for surveillance and detection of enemy submarines. Military payloads such as bombs, mines and depth charges were also increased. The reliable Bristol Pegasus radial engines with 1,065 hp guaranteed a top speed of 336 km/h and a range of action of more than 2,800 km, indispensable for surveillance and reconnaissance.
