The floor model is a replica of the AV-8A Harrier. The Harrier is probably the most famous aircraft with vertical / short take-off and landing capabilities in military history. Designed and developed by the British manufacturer Hawker Siddeley in the 1960s, it was used in its various versions mainly by the British Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy. The United State Marine Corps showed a keen interest in the aircraft, which could be the ideal answer to its operational requirements. The single-seat AV-8A was developed specifically for the USMC and entered service with the Marines' attack squadrons in 1971. The AV-8A could operate from ground bases and from converted amphibious assault ships. The AV-8A could successfully perform close support, ground attack and air defence missions. USMC appreciated that the AV-8A was fully integrated with the other landing craft and helicopters during amphibious assaults.
