510001441 - Model Kit,1:72 US F-5A Freedom Fighter
In the 1950s, the American company Northrop decided to develop a simple, low-cost fighter aircraft to equip the air forces of several NATO countries. The F-5 developed for this purpose was in fact a single-seat, light, small but extremely manoeuvrable fighter. It was simple to produce, relatively inexpensive and highly operational. The first versions produced by Northrop, designated F-5A "Freedom Fighter", could reach a top speed of 1,700 km/h thanks to the two J85-GE-13 engines from General Electric. Equipped with two 20 mm cannons in the nose of the fuselage, the F5 was a true "multi-role aircraft", as it could be used for both air defence and ground attack. The combination of these features ensured its rapid proliferation and use by numerous air forces.
