The floor model is a recreation of the heavy German fighter tank called the Elefant. The development of the full-size Elefant is an interesting case study in weapons development. The chassis was developed by Porsche in the design competition for the Tiger I. Although Porsche was confident enough of its success to complete 100 examples of the chassis before the end of the competition, the design was not selected. The "leftover" chassis was turned into the Elefant in 1942 - about 90 examples were built by May 1943. With armour plates up to 200 mm thick and a powerful 8.8 cm long calibre gun, it was a formidable piece of weaponry and served German troops until the end of World War II.
