The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL completes the TAMIYA 1:24 scale sports car series as a classic sports car. The original vehicle was originally produced as a prototype for the in-house racing team to compete in national races and championships. In 1954, a production car debuted at the New York International Auto Show.

Despite its "road car" status, the 300 SL was a racy and elegant vehicle that was very popular and well received in the United States. It featured a 3-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine - hence the "300" in its name - an extremely light body - SL stands for "Sport Leicht" or "Light Sport" - and the distinctive gullwing doors. By the end of production in May 1957, 1,400 units had been produced.

The TAMIYA kit reflects all details: the complex lattice tube frame, the striking gullwing doors and many more - so the model is in no way inferior to the original.
