The twin-engine Douglas DC-3 was certainly one of the most famous transport aircraft in the history of aviation, thanks to its reliability, flexibility and service life. During the Second World War, a version was developed for military operations: the Douglas C-47 Skytrain. It was produced in large quantities in the American factories and found widespread use on all fronts and in all armies of the Allies. The C-47A, used especially by the British Royal Air Force and Commonwealth troops, was renamed the "Dakota" and used for logistical activities, tactical airlift, parachute drop and casualty evacuation. Thanks to its two 1,200 hp Pratt and Whitney engines, the "Dakota" was able to reach a top speed of 360 km/h and carry a load of over 2,500 kg.
