Product Description

The Mogami, the Imperial Japanese Navy's unique naval cruiser, was commissioned in 1935. Due to various design flaws, three conversions took place, the first due to lack of stability.
In the second, the armament changed from the 15.3 cm triple gun turrets to the larger 20.3 cm double gun turrets. The conversion to an aircraft cruiser took place in 1942 to 1943 after an unsuccessful submarine evasion and collision with the Mikuma as well as several bomb hits from American carrier aircraft.
After further heavy fighting against the enemy US fleet, a heavy fire broke out on the ship in autumn 1944. The remaining crew decided to abandon ship and sink it with torpedoes. The Mogami disappeared into the depths of the Mindanao Sea.
