The JU-87 Stuka was the standard ground attack aircraft and dive bomber of the German Luftwaffe at the beginning of World War II. Despite its mediocre characteristics, it gained considerable fame for its psychological impact on the population and enemy forces. Never before had such a massive use of aircraft been experienced. The success of the Stukas in the first phase of the war was due to the total air superiority guaranteed by the Luftwaffe fighters, which allowed the Stukas to operate without being disturbed by enemy aircraft. During the Battle of Britain, the myth of the JU-87 was re-dimensioned due to the dominance of British fighter aircraft. Nevertheless, the Stukas operated from the African event to Russia until the end of the war.
