The US Army's 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions, part of the Fifth Corps led by General Bradlay, landed on the beach between Vierville sur Mer and Sainte Honorine des Pertes on 6 June 1944. The beach is historically known by its code name in Operation Overlord: Omaha Beach.
