The Patrol TORPEDO BOAT pt-109 was commissioned in the Pacific in 1942. On 2 August 1943, the Japanese destroyer Amagiri rammed the pt-109, sinking the patrol boat. In a crisis, the unit's commander and future President of the United States managed to save the entire crew. The actions taken made him a war hero!
The patrol boat was manned by a crew of 12-17. On the last mission, 13 crew members took part under the leadership of Captain Kennedy. The PT-109 was powered by three Packard 12-cylinder petrol engines producing 1,500 hp (1,100 kW). The speed of the boat was approximately 41 knots (76 km/h). The PT-109 had a single 20-mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun at the stern. On the eve of its final mission, the crew installed a 37-mm anti-tank gun in the bow. The boat's main offensive weapon was her torpedoes. PT-109 was equipped with four 53-cm Mark-8 torpedo tubes, as well as two depth charges and dual-coupled heavy machine guns.

The activities of PT units in the Pacific and the legend of PT-109 and its commanders are still alive today and stir many emotions. PT-109 is present in history, literature, film and popular culture. Thanks to building blocks, COBI can reach you too! Build a story, block by block!
