Product Description

The Vought F4U-4 Corsair is a US Navy fighter aircraft. It was manufactured by Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft between 1942 and 1952.

The "Corsair" entered service in 1942. However, the design process dates back to 1938. The characteristic shape of the broken wings and the pilot cockpit offset to the rear were the result of numerous modifications during the prototype design and testing phase. The culmination of the work was a design with good performance, considered by many to be the best fighter of the Second World War.

Corsairs were used by American units during the Korean War. In the early days there were dogfights between the F4U and Jak-9 fighters, but with the arrival of the MiG-15 Corsairs in Korea they were relegated to the role of support aircraft and night fighters. The aircraft was armed with six 12.7mm Browning machine guns, two 450kg bombs or eight 127mm HVAR unguided rockets. At the controls of one such aircraft was the first African-American pilot in the US Navy, whose life was scripted.

The Vought F4U-4 Corsair kit was released under licence from the Northrop-Grumman corporation and contains 520 high-quality components. The historic pilot figure has been enriched with an additional head that can be mounted interchangeably. The fighter model by COBI was created with attention to the smallest detail in 1:32 scale. It is covered with high quality prints that will not wear out even with intensive use. The cabin opens and a figure can be placed inside. Other moving parts include ailerons, a propeller and folding wheels. The printed markings refer to the heroic pilot from the Korean War. The aircraft can be placed on a presentation stand to be built. The whole set is completed by a display plate with the printed name of the aircraft model. The Corsair from COBI perfectly complements the range of WWII and Korean fighter aircraft in 1/32nd scale. It is one of the most beautiful block models that always stands out due to the extremely characteristic appearance of broken and folded wings.
