04300 - Avro Lancaster Mk.I/III - Model kit, 257 parts, 10 years and up
The four-engined Avro Lancaster was without doubt the most famous of all RAF heavy bombers of WW2. It formed the backbone of night bomber offensives deep into Germany from 1942 onwards and gained notoriety for the sinking of the Tirpitz and the destruction of the Möhne and Eder dams. The Lancaster was capable of carrying bomb loads of up to 9,980 kg, the heaviest single bomb being the Grand Slam. It served in 68 RAF Bomber Command squadrons until 1945 and flew a total of more than 156,000 missions. Of a total of 7,300 aircraft produced, almost half were lost during these missions. Today only two airworthy examples remain, one in the UK and one in Canada.
