Intrigue is a daily routine for nobles, who spend inordinate amounts of time plotting their latest move with panache and style. Priests use the pancreator’s grace as a bargaining chip to gain access to wealthy offices, ideological supremacy and even sinecures. And don’t discount the merchants: whoever has the gold sets the rules, but whoever handles the gold can demand a hefty service fee. Since the schemes of all these factions often skirt the law, they often set up “Fall Guys” – independent troops – to take charge when things go wrong.
