The world beneath the Shattered Moon does not consist solely of physical reality. In addition to what the inhabitants of Lorakis regard as reality or this world, there are three other worlds – the magical, the spiritual and the mythical domain – the so-called Otherworlds, which ordinary mortals can only see rarely or under special circumstances. In this volume, we focus on the magical domain, the entirety of the faerie worlds, the original home of most magical creatures and the powerful faerie lords, who are hardly inferior in power to deities, at least in their homeland.
Jenseits der Grenzen sheds light on the nature of the faerie worlds and their inhabitants, the laws that govern their coexistence and their relationship with mortals. The volume shows the conditions under which a change from this world to the magical domain is possible, what must be observed in order to forge the favour of the fairies in pacts or to avoid their wrath with contracts, which borders are invitations to cross over for the fairies and which are solid barriers, how to keep one’s bearings despite all the confusing and wondrous impressions and which mysteries, treasures and dangers await mortals.
The worlds that open up behind the portals are also independent fairy worlds. These lunar paths obey their own special laws. They are certainly the best-known otherworlds, but even if they are visited quite frequently, they still hold bizarre surprises and dangers for body, mind and soul in store for travellers passing through.
In addition to the “typical” faerie worlds that lie next to the large cultural regions of Lorakis and which characterise the image of the magical domain there, there are also a myriad of very special locations, faerie courts and subdomains, a selection of which is presented here to illustrate the diversity of the otherworlds. Eternal battlefields and world machines find their place here as well as the home of the Wild Hunt or a domain of children.
