The floor model is a recreation of the US self-propelled vehicle called the 155-mm M40. The M40 was an important step in the artillery mechanisation of the US Army, combining the 155 mm M1 gun with the proven M4 Sherman chassis. The armament was appropriately light due to its intended use as a long-range weapon, as its effectiveness was a range of 23.5 km. The M40 served in the Korean War and was eventually replaced by the M53.
