There were various requirements that had to be met by Krupp. The main goal was to standardise the vehicles and to make them suitable for off-road use. For the Reichswehr, the vehicle was an enrichment for the vehicle fleet and very popular with the troops. There were also some technical changes, such as the 4-cylinder boxer engine, which was also used in Panzerkampfwagen 1; the logistical advantages here are obvious.
