Coal & Colony takes you to the southern Ruhr region at the beginning of the industrial revolution, where you acquire mining fields and operate small and individual collieries in the area of today’s cities of Essen, Hattingen, Bochum and Witten. Over five rounds, you employ miners and mining engineers in your growing mines, attract new workers from the surrounding villages and build settlements to develop your mine network into the most profitable production sites possible. Consolidation is the central event: when small collieries in a mine field are merged and the newly created large colliery is up for auction, it all depends on your bid! But beware: it’s not just your fellow players who want to outbid you – the influential coal syndicate is also involved and will fight over the valuable mining fields. Will you still win the bid for the most attractive mine?
